Success starts with the seed. It’s crucial to position the right varieties in the right places, and in Western Canada, our supplier’s efforts are unmatched. To highlight one example, Maizex corn.

Maizex is a Canadian, farmer-owned company with a strong focus on Manitoba growers. Maizex works with retail partners and growers to plant over 10,000 small plots, 5 demo locations, and multiple breeding sites across Manitoba annually. Evaluating yield, maturity, vigor, disease resistance, standability, silk timing, tassel timing, milk line progression, stay green, dry down, and more. This year DSAG had the chance to host an impressive Maizex demo site and a breeding plot with over 8000 grain and silage corn varieties in Cypress River! This highlights a dedicated effort to bring locally tailored genetics to our own backyard and pairs well with local rep support.

Maizex utilizes a state-of-the-art testing program for silage specific hybrids, with the ability to test and evaluate many varieties by measuring moisture in real time, right in the field. Focusing on finding hybrids that make strong silage specific options with high feed quality, tonnage and stay green.

By consistently coupling these efforts with our own on farm and grower trials across our network we can confidently and accurately position the right varieties with our customers. A proper first step in providing growers the support, value, and trust they deserve.
