Introducing Pelta™

Like any crop, achieving a target plant stand is something you will be looking at in order to maximize yield potential. To do this, growers seed a certain number of pounds of seed per acre, based on the thousand kernel weight and germination percentage of a seed lot, row spacing and the expected percentage of seeds that will not germinate (mortality). This can be further determined if you know how many individual seeds you are seeding in a square foot. When it comes to canola, there is growing interest to use a planter instead of an air seeder in order to more accurately manage the amount of canola seed being put down along with more precise spacing between seeds and consistency of placement in the furrow. However, with canola seed it can be challenging to accomplish this with the variability of seed size and the seeds being small to begin with.

This is why Syngenta has come up with Pelta™, offered exclusively on Canterra Seeds canola varieties. Pelta™ is a seed coating or pelleting that makes each individual canola seed the same uniform size so that a grower can ensure they are placing the exact or as close to exact number of canola seeds in a square foot. The seed pelleting will not only give better seed placement but will improve the seed survivability and stand establishment. This is because Pelta™ comes complete with the seed treatment, Helix Slatro to protect from soil born diseases, striped and crucifer flea beetles, as well as seed and air born blackleg. Secondly Fortenza Advance insecticide seed treatment, an industry leader in long lasting protection against striped flea beetles and cutworms. Each bag of canola will contain the exact same number of seeds so that farmers can purchase exactly what they need to meet their target plant stand. Canola with Pelta will also be a larger seed size which will have a TKW of 7:

Pelta™ is offered on Canterra Seeds new Liberty Link CS 4000 LL, as well as their TruFlex CS 3000 and CS 2600 CR-T. Give us a call at Pitura Seeds if you would be interested in trying Pelta™ or if you would like to learn more.
